Global Traffic Technologies, LLC (GTT) has contracted with the city of Grand Prairie in Texas to provide the city with its Opticom™ Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) solution. Opticom works alongside intersection controllers to help ensure emergency vehicles can move through intersections rapidly and safely.
When an emergency vehicle needs to navigate an intersection, the Opticom system on-board the vehicle sends a request to the intersection’s controller ahead of its arrival, which turns the light green when it can do so safely, clearing a path to enable the vehicle’s expedited passage. In Grand Prairie, the system has been deployed to 22 of the city’s busiest intersections.
GTT’s president Doug Roberts said, “We are very happy to be working with the city of Grand Prairie, bringing the benefits of Opticom EVP to its emergency service operations and helping to increase personnel and resident safety.”
Grand Prairie is the 15th most populous city in Texas, and is home to more than 175,000 residents. The city has a long history of involvement with aviation and defense manufacturing, stretching back to World War II, and is currently home to a number of aircraft and military equipment suppliers. Actress and singer Selena Gomez was born in Grand Prairie in 1992.
