Get on Board with Smarter Transport

GTT demonstrated transit solutions at the UITP World Congress and Exhibition in Milan, Italy on June 8th-10th, 2015.

More than 2,200 delegates from 83 countries and 284 exhibitors from across the industry, gathered in the Italian city of Milan and the mood was one of ambition faced with the challenges of: financing; the arrival of new mobility services; infrastructure needs in smart and growing cities; the impact on cities of new vehicle and IT technologies and focusing on customer service.

Elegant Density: Rapid Urbanization Requires Smart Transport Planning

GTT’s Tim Hall gave realistic eye opening presentation, that described how rapidly our population is increasing. Which could lead to higher standards of living, better education, housing and health care, skilled labor, and more; but could also mean overcrowding, increased pollution, and congestion. It is also no surprise that at this  rate, everyone having a car is not sustainable. All signs of the future point towards the us of public transportation. Planning needs to begin now, so it has the positive impact, and not the opposite.

Success factors should include:

  • Leverage transit technology – for example BRT and TSP deployment to build confidence in predictably and save costs.
  • Digital connectivity to provide amenities to riders, leverage social media
  • Make trip trip planning tools and fare payment easier
  • Implement better planning tools, with real time traffic monitoring
  • Minimize costs for all
