Putting a Stop to Intersection Indecision

In this article, ITS International explores how intersection crashes are being prevented on rural roads, with help from Canoga™ Traffic Sensing technology <Hyperlink to Canoga page>. They found that fatal crashes have been reduced by 30% and serious injuries have be reduced by 80%. Studies in North Carolina and Minnesota are applying great insight on how to bring more awareness to intersections. In Minnesota, they found when signs were flashing, speeds on major roads decreased, but the wait time on the minor road was longer, and minor road roll-throughs ceased. Yet, drivers on the minor road came to depend completely on the warnings – if the sign was not on they ignored the stop sign, this issue is currently being addressed.
