Picture this: You’re a leader in public safety sitting through another sales pitch. Your mind goes back to all the jargon you’ve been told before. Except, this time it’s different.
You hear a familiar brand name – Whelen – brought up in discussion. You know their lightbars are the best in the industry, but something new is going on here. You’ve also heard of Opticom, the technology that allows your vehicles to get the green light and respond to incidents safer and faster. But for the first time, you’re hearing they work together?
Emergency response vehicles equipped with the Whelen Vehicle Safety Gateway (VSG) and connected to the Whelen Cloud Platform can now seamlessly integrate with the Opticom Cloud Platform.
Others hearing the pitch perk up, their eyes grow wider as they realize that they would get the benefits of both cloud solutions at an affordable price and nearly immediate deployment.
“I would have to be brain dead not to go with Whelen and Opticom,” you blurt out.
Believe it or not, this scenario played out with a current customer using the Opticom and Whelen Cloud Platforms, and those exact words were used.
“I would have to be brain dead not to go with Whelen and Opticom.” – Actual Opticom/Whelen Cloud Platform Customer
Let’s describe how our partnership works, and you can decide for yourself.
The Opticom Cloud Platform offers our Opticom EVP, Opticom TSP and connected intersection applications via a centralized platform technology. The Whelen Cloud Platform is a feature-rich platform that sends and receives data through cellular networks and is enabled by their VSG device. Both are built with openness in mind and provide valuable analytics to improve safety and operations for your community.
Through cloud-to-cloud connectivity, vehicles equipped with the Whelen VSG can now integrate with Opticom to request preemption as they approach traffic lights. No additional hardware is required at the intersection if you have connectivity. The platform also features a live-view map with a web-based interface, allowing users to see their vehicles and their responses. GPS data from the vehicle will pass on information from Whelen’s VSG to the Opticom cloud-based software.
Beta customers who tested the cloud platforms expressed that this was a very needed and valued product integration. The partnership between GTT and Whelen, two leaders in public safety solutions, delivers monumental value to those whom we serve.
